Course 6 Installation of LPG Cylinders

This course is designed for technical and sales staff of distribution companies who require knowledge of LPG cylinders installations. It reviews regulations, cylinder selection criteria, safety distances, installation elements, and key technical aspects for the proper installation and maintenance of LPG cylinder installations.

The course is complemented by a practical exercise on sizing an LPG cylinder installation.

The course consists of 12 teaching hours, three sessions of four hours each. We recommend one session per day. The course program is as follows:

SESSION 1: INTRODUCTION AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK (4 HOURS)
Hour 1-2: Introduction

  • LPG Basics: Properties, applications, benefits and risks of LPG.

  • Regulatory Framework: National and international regulations.

Hour 3-4: Cylinders – 1

  • Types of cylinders

  • Large cylinders – Special type

  • Cylinder elements

  • Connection to the consumer installation

SESSION 2: CYLINDERS AND INSTALLATION ELEMENTS (4 HOURS)
Hour 1-2: Cylinders – 2

  • Vaporization

  • Maximum flow rate

  • Selection criteria

  • Types of gas flow

  • Maximum number of cylinders

Hour 3-4: Elements of the installation 

  • Multicylinder – design

  • Location of the cylinder 

  • Design of the booth

  • Safety distances

  • Testing, trials and verifications

  • Inertising and commissioning procedures

  • Degassing of facilities

  • Maintenance

  • Action in case of emergency

SESSION 3: GROUP EXERCISE – INSTALLATION DESIGN (4 HOURS)
Hour 1-3: Group exercise

Hour 3-4: New technologies. Conclusions and evaluation

  • New technologies for gas cylinder installations

  • Analysis of the exercise performed and review of common errors in LPG cylinder installation.

  • Reminder of the benefits and risks of LPG
